Overseas Cemeteries
This section is dedicated to all those who served in WWI and WWII in the 16th Infantry Regiment and whose remains are interned in an overseas cemetery that are maintained by the American Battlefield Monuments Commission.
The commission administers, operates, and maintains twenty-four permanent American burial grounds on foreign soil. Presently there are 124,913 U.S. War Dead buried at these cemeteries, 30,921 World War I, 93,242 from World War II and 750 from the Mexican War. Additionally, 5,857 American veterans and others are buried in the Mexico City and Corozal Cemeteries.
This section also provides the user with the capability to browse the complete list of WWI and WWII 1st Infantry Division personnel interned at each cemetery. In the future, we hope to add those killed in the Mexican War. I know of no other place that you can go to enjoy such ease of access to this database.
You can also visit the AMERICAN BATTLEFIELD MONUMENTS COMMISSION (ABMC) Home Page. The AMBC's Home Page contains a complete listing of all American cemeteries they maintain overseas. Each cemetery has a separate listing with direction of how to get there plus information on hours of operations and accommodations. All of the cemeteries maintained by the ABMC are listed here. There is a description of each cemetery to include information on getting there and other items of interest.
Additionally, the Association maintains a listing of individuals buried in each of these cemeteries.
