BREAUX, SHELTON L RA543434635 SERGEANT E5 United States Army Company A 2d
Battalion 16th Infantry
Awarded: Bronze Star Medal with"V" device
Effective month: December 1966
Theater: Republic of Vietnam
Reason: For Heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile
force: On this date, Sergeant Breaux was serving as point man of an ambush
patrol conduction operations in Lai Thieu Province. He was informed that a
friendly unit had suddenly become engaged with a Viet Cong force of unknown
size. Unhesitatingly, Sergeant Breaux led his patrol in the direction of the
conflict. En route, his unit encountered a heavy barrage of Viet Cong fire.
With complete disregard for his personal safety, Sergeant Breaux advanced
on the insurgent positions and was immediately injured. Sergeant
Breaux ignored his painful wound to lay a devastating volume of fire on the
Viet Cong which enable his comrades to take cover. He courageously continued
to maintain a deadly base of fire until he was mortally wounded. His
selfless regard for the welfare of his fellow soldiers and his supreme
sacrifice distinguish him as a combat soldier of the highest
caliber. Sergeant Breaux's outstanding display of aggressiveness, devotion
to duty, and personal bravery is in keeping with the finest traditions of
the military service and reflects great credit upon himself, the 1st
Infantry Division and the United States Army
