Name: Gregory C. Curtis Email: gcurtis@admin.suffolk.edu Date: 3/2/99 Comments My father, SFC William D. Curtis, served in Company I, 16th Inf during WWII. He was a Light Mortar Crewman (607) and earned his CIB in May 1945. (Earlier, he was with the 139 AAA Gun Bn). After the war, he remained in the Army as a Mess Sergeant. He retired from Active Duty in 1964 and passed away in 1965. I still think about him, often. Every now and then I'll look through his letters and records. This is one of those times. I miss him. I have always thought of searching out friends and acquaintances from his war years. To ask what he was like, how he thought (I was seven when he died). I never seemed to get around to it. Perhaps, I'll never know. Thank you for setting up this site. Going down the list of your Distinguished Members, it reminds me that somewhere out there are persons and places and memories of which my Dad was a part. |

Name: David L. Stewart Email: davidavid.l.stewart@lmco.com Date: 2/11/99 Comments Got your URL from the Dagwood Dispatch issue # 29. Glad to see that as usual, the 16th Inf. is keeping up with all the latest communication technology. For all of those from Co C 2nd Bn 16th Inf who served in Vietnam during the '66 to '67 era, I talked to Sgt. John Crow last night in Colorado. He said he had been in contact recently with SSG Jo Shine, Lt. Libbs and a few others as result of the newsletter. We talked about how we would like to get in touch with Lawson Passmore, Doc Fenton, Josh Morris (Chief), Sgt Neeves, Sgt Speedy Gonzales, Rhyneer, Warmka, etc. from that era If anyone can help us, would sure appreciate it. John Seville, if you are the same Seville who served with us during that era, perhaps you know how to get in touch with some of those mentioned. |

Date December 25, 2000 Name AJEAN Email AJEAN1584@AOL.COM Comments The 1st US Infantry Divisions History regarding units that were attached to it is incorrect for the period of 6/6/44 to 6/15/44. It shows that the 745th Tank Battalion was attached to the 16th Regimental Combat Team for the initial landing on Omaha beach. Plan "NEPTUNE" assigned Companies B,C, and A to the 2nd and 3rd Battalion of the 16th Regiments secto of Easy-Red Fox-Green part of Omaha Beach. Per General Order NO.442, Headquarters 1st United States Infantry Division, dated July 1944, the 741st Tank Battalion was cited for outstanding performance of duty in action, etc. I have been trying for almost 10 years to get someone to notice the error and correct it. The 741st was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for the D-Day invasion. Could someone E mail me how to get the record straight. It has been incorrect for 56 years. My brother was a tank gunner in Company A 741st Tank Battalion. The 1st Division History should list the 741st as being attached to the 16th Regiment, 1st US Infantry Division from 6/6/44 to 6/15/44. |

Date September 1, 2000 Name Craig G. McIntosh Email mcintoshc@netzero.net Comments The best, most demanding & rewarding years of my 20 years of service were spent @ Panzer Kaserne w/CSC, 1st 16th In(Mech). I found this site a little more than a year ago. As it was then, it still is now, the registration site is still under construction! The regiment made it off Omaha Beach faster! Pardon my sarcasm. But, I'm a sentimental "young" fool that has some great 16th In. memomries. Of all the regiments I served in, I remain most proud to have served in this one. Please, can I register? |

We are hoping that someone out there might have known him or has a picture of him. His son did not have a chance to know him and he has not seen a picture of him in over 50 years. Date February 9, 2001 Name Gerry Beale Email gerrybeale@hotmail.com Comments Very Interesting. My mother lived in Bridport, Dorset, England as a girl and has told me on many occasions of the American troops stationed in the area before D-Day. Only recently have I discovered that the troops were the 16th Infantry Regiment so I am pleased to learn more about the regiment. Also, whilst on holiday in France several years ago, I was able to visit Omaha beach and likewise I am pleased to be able to learn more about the men who landed there. As a boy I lived in Weymouth, Dorset and there were many older poeple around who remember the American troops passing through before D-Day. Again I find that it was the 16th who passed through first so whilst I am an Englishman I find there are many family connections with the 16th. |

One of the key pieces of information missing is a map of the German defenses which was captured on Omaha. I was told by folks at the 116th Regimental Museum in Staunton and the D-Day Museum in New Orleans that you might have it in your collection. If so, would it be possible to get a copy of it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time. Sincerely, LTC William Schneck (703) 704-2446 |

Date November 27, 2002 Name Charles Moy Email moy3rd@hotmail.com Comments I served with two units of the Big Red One 1961-1964. From visiting the C,2/16th website I think I may have served with a member of that outfit. Early 63 we both transfered from Alpha,2/12th Inf. to the 16th Inf . Reg. . I lost track of him then. I went with E,1/16th which when the Div. went from Battle Groups back to Battalions became Bravo,1/16th. I was discharged in 64,before Vietnam. The fellow I served with up on Custer Hill with the 2/12th was P.F.A. Faberski. I think his first name is Peter. If you know him ,and he remebers me,I would like to get in touch, just to say Hello. Charlie Moy...former Sgt. 106 Crew Squad Leader. My name is: Charles Moy Former: Sgt,E5, Squad Leader 106MM,R.R. Served: 1961-1964,Ft. Riley, Kansas Units: Co.A, 2 BG. 12Th. Inf. Date June 22, 2002 Name Joseph E. Caiazzo Email JCaiazzo99@aol.com Comments Thanks for keeping up the fine work in maintaining this site. I am looking for information about my father...Sgt.Joseph A. Crescenzo. He served in Company C/ 1st Battalion/ 16th Infantry Reg. during WWII. His nickname was "Crash", and we don't know the reason for it. He was awarded the Silver Star saving a wounded buddy, under heavy fire. Unfortunately, we don't have the Citation describing the excat situation. Father saw action in North Africa and Sicily, where he was wounded, and shipped Stateside for a six month recuperation in La Garde General Hospital, Louisiana. He became a Drill Master Sgt and Drill instructor in the 861st Field Artillery BN. Does anyone have a recollection of my Dad? Does anyone the name of the soldier whose life he saved, or the place where the incident took place? Any information is deeply appreciated. Joseph Caiazzo |

Email lap0392@aol.com Comments I see that CSM William B. Feely has become an honorary member and would like to congratulate him. I served under him and have always been proud of the distinguished soldier he has always been. I did serve beside the big red one in Desert Storm for a time but never assigned. I am a veteran of a foreign war as is my Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. It has been several years since I have talked to CSM Feely and would sincerely like to know he is doing well. Hopefully the south is treating him well and teaching has become a part of his life. I would love it if he would email me and let me know he is ok. I am very proud to be an American. Thanks |

Date March 7, 2003 Name Mark S. Seeley Email markseeley@hotmail.com Comments Looking for 1966 veterans of B Co./2nd. Battalion/16th Regiment or others who might help me find Ray Wire, Roger? Thompson,or John Harthan. All tried to save my KIA father's life. His CH-47 crashed on takeoff from a confined PZ near Dau Tieng. This 1st Infantry Division unit had captured VC supplies in the jungle. Dad's CH-47 unit was assigned the task of hauling out the captured VC tin sheets, bicycles, and pots and pans. On the third run they lost power on takeoff and could not clear the 70 foot trees. All others escaped, but my father was trapped with his feet caught in the pedals. At great risk these men attempted to save Dad, but could not. I'd like to find them and thank them. Any help or search suggestions would be appreciated. Always-Mark S. Hi Folks, There is an online petition being taken at : www.PetitionOnline.com/pfcmongo/petition.html to urge the D.O.D. to award a medal to those who served during the Cold War Era. I personally feel that we (I served 61-64) deserve some recognition for our service to our country. The Congress approved the issuance of the medal and the money is already in the budget, but D.O.D.(Sec. Rumsfeld) for some reason has decided not to do it. I would appreciate it if you would think it over, and if you agree with me,go to the site and sign the petition. You DO NOT have to be a Cold War Veteran to sign, just a citizen of the U.S.A.. Thanks, Charlie Moy..A,2/12TH..61-63 ..E,(later B) 1/16th..63-64 Big Red One . Please pass this on. |

I find this very interesting as I have been trying to find information on my wifes father KIA 31 Mar 43. We just recently were able to find him at Fort Snelling. She was orphaned by her mother shortly after birth in 1940 then again by her father in 1943. She only had a letter from the VA in about 1958 that documented his service dates and serial number. We started looking when she came accross that letter again. Thanks to your web page she found that he hadn't been completely lost to time. Thanks for the caring effort you put to your fallen brothers. |

In my father-in-law's stuff (743 Tank Bn, landed at Omaha) we found a large 2' x 3' white banner of the 16th Infantry Regiment with coat of arms and campaigns ending "Army of Occupation 1945 - ?" I'm guessing it was from some affiliation from D-Day - 743 was with 30th Infantry Div for most of WW II. |

I am involved in a two year Heritage Research Project on Abbotsbury and are working on the WWII period when K Coy, 3 Bn, 16th Regiment were here in Abbotsbury for seven months Nov.'43-June '44 doing training prior to D-Day Normandy France. I am seeking any photos, maps, memories or stories of and from Vets (or from their relatives), who were here or in the area during that difficult period of the war. We have around thirty residents here in the village now who were living here during that time. All replies answered with thanks, for any cooperation you may be able to offer to help us build our history. |

My father, Sgt. Earle E. Bailey, was a medic during WWII, in the 16th. I am interested in learning about Omaha Beach, North Africa etc. as it pertains to his service as a medic. There is not much about medics other than a book called Dr. Danger Forward. My dream is to go to Normandy. Sue Bailey |

My grandfather was a member of your regiment during WW 2. I am a teacher and all I know of my grandfather was told to me by my grandmother. I was hoping to contact men who served with him during the war. His name was Richard Wood Home: Lake George NY. I feel an empty spot in my heart because I never was able to meet him and he served the country so bravely and allowed me to be here today and have a wife, two kids and a great job. Thank you Christopher B. Wood |

I am trying to find fellow Vietnam Veterans that served with John Kinsler. Kinsler was part of the 16th Inf 1st Inf Division and served from October 1959 to July 1968. He was a mess sergeant in Lai Khe and now has severe depression. There are several accounts which I need to verify his presence in order to help his case. I was hoping that a fellow vet could help him. The accounts he speaks of are: 1) ammo dump explosion during Tet offense 2) 1969 event when taking shower another soldier was hit by mortar frags and almost lost manhood 3) Kinsler serving eggs during incoming rocket attack 4) APC's ambushed by VC and men ambushed If you would like to e-mail me directly my e-mail address is: djafarian@hotmail.com or dxj0302@mail.widener.edu Thank you so much for your help |
