Quarterly Newsletter – The Association's newsletter, the Dagwood Dispatches, is published quarterly. It contains informational articles on upcoming events, items pertaining to VA benefits, news from our active duty battalion and other items of interest.

Annual First Division Officers Dinner – The annual First Division Officers Dinner is held at the Crystal City Hyatt the last weekend in April. Any officer who served in combat with the First Division during any period is eligible to attend. Active duty members of the Division may attend as guests of their regiment. For officers of the Regiment, if your name is in our database and we have your current mailing address, you are on the Dinner Committee's mailing list. If you are not in our database, or served with other units in combat with the First Infantry Division contact:

  • Mr. William H. Bannon
    P.O. Box 66
    Greenbush, VA 23357-0066

Memorial and Veterans Day Ceremonies – Every Memorial and veterans Day at 11:00 AM there is a ceremony held at the First Infantry Division Monument in Washington located directly behind the White House and Old Executive Office Building on 17th and E Street. At 1 PM there is a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Additionally, the Society of the First Division establishes a CP directly across from Constitution and 21st Street on the path leading to the Monument. You can check in there to see who else has checked in and other items of interest.

Annual First Infantry Division Reunions – The 16th Infantry Regiment Association supports the annual Society of the First Infantry Division's reunion by operating a Regimental CP at all of the reunions. It's a place you can come and meet with old friends and meet others who served with the regiment. The Association also displays some of its memorabilia. The annual reunions are held in a different location each year. In 2005, the 1st Division reunion is scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C.  Dates are not yet available.

Annual Distinguished member of the Regiment (DMOR) Investiture Ceremony – The DMOR Program is a Department of the Army Program. Under this program, the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment (HCOR) recommends former members of the regiment to be DMORs. Those selected are inducted in an Investiture Ceremony held at Fort Riley, generally in the month of September. If you desire to nominate anyone as a DMOR please send your nomination to:

Honorary Colonel of the Regiment
19535 Newberry Ter., Apt 103
Leesburg, Virginia 2-176-2012

Guests are encouraged to attend the ceremony and the related activities. Dates of the ceremony are posted in the Dagwood Dispatches, or you can use the address and telephone numbers above for more information. You can also e-mail the Association. For a complete listing of all current regimental DMORs visit the Distinguished Members of the Regiment pages of the Regimental Hall of Honor.  This year (2004) the ceremony will be held during the period November 17-20.  For more information call: (703) 723-9669.

Locator Assistance – As a service to our members and the families of former members of the Regiment we offer locator assistance. There are two ways in which we help individuals locate former members of the Regiment. First, we search our database to see if the individual being sought is a member of the Association. Next, if the individual is not in our database, then we will put an ad in one of the issues of our quarterly newsletter. (Note: Before we will put any ad in the newsletter, you must send us written permission to use your name and address in the newsletter, otherwise we will not publish your request for assistance.)

Memorabilia Collection - The Association collects all sorts of photos, news articles, pictures, uniforms, and war souvenirs. These items are utilized for research as well as being displayed at the annual officers dinner and reunions.

Guidon Collection – The Association in addition to owing a set of Regimental, Division and Army Colors, to include Battle Streamers for each had a collection of unit guidons. All of these have been provided by tax deductible donations and by individual members. Our collection of WWII unit guidons is now complete. We still need a number of Vietnam era unit guidons. A complete Guidon cost $120. If you desire to purchase your unit's guidon and donate it to the Association contact us at gkgpag@msn.com . There is also a 'Silver Band' memorial program for memorializing individuals with whom you served. Silver bands run $15.00 each and are attached to the unit's guidon.
